Last night, I completed another Friday night skate in Copenhagen this time! (That's a total of 3 countries and counting!) The skate started from Islands Brygge which is only a 15 mins skate from work (25 mins if you get lost!) and was a 21km skate around Copenhagen. There were a couple of hundred skaters and I have to say I really enjoyed the skate. The skate was a lot slower than the speed demons in London and Paris which made it a lot more enjoyable being able to take in the surroundings and having a chat to people while skating. The route is also mostly flat and unlike Paris the route did not go through any cobble-stoned streets or even rough patches for that matter.

The previous couple of days before the FNS, I skated home from work. Roughly a 40 mins depending on how lost you get (oops...I'm making a habit of that) I really need a tomtom built into my skates! I'm still learning the best route home from work as there seems to be a point where I cross the bridges and I get faced with a choice of right, left or cobblestones straight ahead and it's straight ahead that I'd like to go. Either way...it's still a good skate and it's allowing me to improve my sense of direction.

Copenhagen has to be one of the most skate-able cities that I've ever lived in. It's bike lanes are fabulous for skaters and my favorite so far is the bike lanes that go around the round-a-bouts....so cool! I also feel safe skating on the streets because car drivers are aware of bikes and do the appropriate checks before turning etc and the same applies if I'm in the bike lane. Thumbs up for Copenhagen.

CPH FNS Route 04/08/06Here is a map of the route for the FNS. The round dot is the starting point, the big red marker is the half way stop at the Radhus (Town Hall) and i've added in the pink marker which is where I live and the blue marker is where I work.

P.S All photos are clickable now on kuju.nu so you can see the bigger picture now that I've switched to flickr.

Comments for Friday Night Skate in Copenhagen

Yaay! Skated home yesterday in 32 mins! The third skate of the week too. Finally found a route I like and even mingled with the tail end of peak hour bike traffic!
