| Pari Roller! Wednesday, 21st June 2006 - 23:56pm Copenhagen |

Since attending my first London Street Skate last year, I had always wanted to join in on one of the largest street skates in Europe, the Pari Roller. That's right, 32km and 12,000 skaters skating around one of the most enchanting cities in Europe, Paris. Caitlin and I met up in Paris on Friday night and joined a small group of skaters from Holland and the UK for a three day tour of Paris on blades! This tour is organised by Skate-a-round and includes skating the Pari Roller, a slalom lesson, a Sights and sounds of Paris tour, late night dancing to cheesy music in a mexican restaurant and skate tour along the River Siene.
The Pari Roller was absolutely amazing. The vibe and energy combined with the fact we were skating in Paris was absolutely amazing. 3 hours of skating however, up and down hills, was certainly a struggle but we made it. I had started to feel ill towards the end of the skate due to lack of energy but there is no pulling out of any skate. When I saw the last hill we had to tackle after almost 3 hours of skating, I was willing (on orders from my legs) to back out but a one of the skate marshalls saw my look of pain and horror and grabbed my hand and pulled me up that hill. I would like to say 'Merci Beacoup' to my Pari Roller angel, without him, I wouldn't have finished it.
On Saturday morning, we skated out to Trocadero (opposite Eiffel Tower) for our Slalom lesson. After spending many hours mesmerised by slalom skaters, it has been something i've always wanted to try. A series of cones are set up where you zig-zag in and out with different skating styles. We were taught the basic slalom which was indeed fun. After our short lesson we had some free time to wander the streets of Paris before dinner and our night skating.
After a delicious Mexican (and you thought I was going to say Parisian!) meal we headed out for our next skate which took us skating around the streets of Paris again including under the Eiffel tower and the around the Lourve. It was another spectacular skate which I enjoyed even more than the Pari Roller. After returning around midnight from the skate, it didn't stop the Dutch crew from going out to Party. After a quick shower and change we headed back to the Mexican restaurant which by this stage had turned into a nightclub where we partied for a couple of hours before finally making our way back to our hotel.
The final day saw us with our last skate around the streets of Paris. On Sunday, some of the roads are blocked off to traffic allowing, cyclists, skaters and pedestrians to roam the streets freely. The sun was shining and the streets were a hive of physical activity. It was wonderful! I wish I was able to do that every Sunday!
We probably averaged over 4 hours of skating a day, more than I've done all year and had a fabulous time. It is an amazing way to cover so much ground in a city and immerse yourself into the local life.
A big thank-you also to Skate-a-round who conducted a fantastic tour. I normally hate tours and tour groups but this one was flexible, organised and provided more than I had expected, along with a damn good time! If only I could stop looking at their other tours on their site, they just make me want to get my skates on. Skating in Cuba...now that would be fun!

Oh..and some more pics. |

Hehe, i'm not quite comfortable with a camera in my hand while the wheels are rolling. Maybe if I had my quads on :)
